The National Society of Film Critics handed out their annual awards on Saturday, January 3, 2009. Hanna Schygulla took away the best actress prize for her work in “Edge of Heaven.”
The society has two rounds of voting. Penélope Cruz, who is originally from Madrid, had won in the first round of voting for her work in “Vicky Cristina Barcelona.” In the first round, Schygulla had come in fourth.
Interestingly, Eve, the “girl” robot in “Wall-E,” also received a vote for best actress.
